Counting games are an integral part of children's games, and learning them can be a great way to train your child's memory and have a great time together. We offer you 45 interesting counting games in Ukrainian that your child will definitely like.

A counter is a short poem, usually for children, that defines the role and place of each participant in a collective game. Before teaching a counter to a child, you need to explain to the child exactly how this selection works.

Why are counters needed?

So, the counter is primarily a way to choose a leader in the game or divide players into teams, removing the need for conscious decision-making. This method is fair, unexpected, interesting for the child, and, most importantly, it should not cause objections.

The counter can be used to choose the leader: the one who gets the last word is the leader in the game.

The counter can also be used to eliminate players from the circle: the one who gets the last word leaves the circle of children, and the counter is repeated again - until one of the two leaves; the one who remains will be the leader. This option allows you to repeat the counter several times, which is a good way to develop children's diction.

Along with counters, there are so-called collusions: when it is necessary to divide into two teams, two captains are appointed from the group, who must choose their players.

Players approach them in pairs and offer two answer options, having agreed in advance which option corresponds to each of them.

For example: “Mother, mother, what should I give you: bread or cake?” One of the captains chooses and gets a player to join his team who is hiding behind the answer. The second one goes to the other team.

Sometimes these texts are more elaborate, rhymed, and often humorous: "Would you rather carve a tree or dance on the water?", "Was he lost on the stove or drowned in a spoon?", "Borsch with lard or a Cossack with a dagger?".
Teach your child to pronounce the counter clearly - this will help improve diction.
