Ukrainian women who work or run a business have the right to receive sick leave due to pregnancy and childbirth. Such assistance is granted on the basis of a medical report and a certificate of incapacity for work.

Who can receive maternity benefits?

Women who:
  • work under an employment contract, gig contract, civil law contract, etc.;
  • hold elected positions in the bodies of state power and local self-government,
  • entrepreneurs and those who carry out independent professional activities.

What is the size of the allowance during pregnancy and childbirth?

To calculate the amount of the benefit, the salary (income) at the place of work (activity) for the previous 12 months is divided by the number of calendar days (except for those that were not worked for valid reasons.
From January 1, 2024, the maximum allowance for working women is 106 500 UAH per month (15 minimum wages), and the minimum — 7100 UAH a month.

The amount of payments to women entrepreneurs depends on the fact of paying a single social contribution and the amount of income from which insurance contributions are paid.

How many calendar days of leave due to pregnancy and childbirth are paid?

  • 126 calendar days (70 days before childbirth and 56 after),
  • 140 calendar days (70 days before childbirth and 70 after) in the case of the birth of two or more children and in the case of complicated childbirth;
  • 180 calendar days (90 before childbirth and 90 after) for women affected by the Chernobyl disaster.
However, a working woman who does not have medical contraindications can start vacation later than 70 (90) days before the expected date of childbirth, and also carry over unused vacation days to the period after childbirth.
The total duration of such leave does not change.
