At the bottom of the Kakhovskaya HPP there could be many substances dangerous to health. Chemicals, causative agents of infectious diseases from cemeteries, toilets, and landfills may end up in wells and open reservoirs in the territory flooded as a result of the detonation of a hydroelectric power station by a terrorist country.

Specialists of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are already working on the ground and taking water samples from reservoirs and wells and the like.

To reduce the risk of infectious diseases in the affected areas, follow these rules:

  • Drink only bottled or imported water.
  • Water for cooking and household needs is taken only from verified sources. A river or a well in the yard are no longer recognized as verified sources of water. As well as water supply intended for technical purposes.
  • Boil or disinfect water taken for drinking, washing fruits, berries or dishes in another way. However, remember that boiling does not rid water of chemical pollution!
  • Avoid products that have been flooded with water (even canned foods).
  • Subject all products to heat treatment (boiling, frying, baking).
  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap.
  • Do not dress in clothes that were contaminated during flooding without first washing and disinfection.

❗ In the next 3-5 days, due to the rapid drop in the water level, a fish plague will be observed in the Kherson region and flooded areas in Zaporozhye. Collecting such fish and consuming it (salting or drying) is strictly prohibited! There is a risk of botulism.

In the regions, stocks of antibiotics and sorbents for the treatment of acute intestinal infections are formed.

❗ If you feel abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, elevated body temperature and other unusual symptoms, do not resort to self-medication - immediately consult a doctor.
