Caution - thrombosis: who is at risk and how to avoid it

Content
ToggleThis disease threatens people of any age. It can be asymptomatic, and then one day it will suddenly strike...
Who is in the special risk group?
Thrombosis is the formation of blood clots inside the arteries or veins that prevent the free flow of blood. Irreparable happens if the thrombus becomes very large and completely blocks the lumen of the vessel. Or if a small thrombus (embolus) breaks off and together with the flow of blood enters, for example, the vessels of the lungs... For today, it is impossible to say for sure who is at risk of thrombosis and who is not. It can happen to almost everyone. However, doctors have identified classic factors that increase this probability.

In the risk group
People who lead a sedentary lifestyle, suffer from obesity and have undergone operations. In addition, the risk of thrombosis can be provoked by dehydration, varicose veins, and uncontrolled use of contraceptives. However, all these circumstances can lead to the formation of blood clots only with a complex effect.
Just coincided
For example, you flew on a plane for 10 hours, sat in an uncomfortable position, did not drink anything, and at the same time you have varicose veins or obesity. In this case, the chance of leaving the plane with a blood clot is really high.
And more. In almost 80% of cases, thrombosis is asymptomatic. Therefore, the only salvation is prevention

Prevention of thrombosis
- Watch your weight. It is known that overweight people often develop deep vein thrombosis and related complications. And with 3-4 degrees of obesity after 40 years, this risk increases 5 times. Therefore, it is important to be in one place.
- Move more. Thrombosis is promoted by venous stasis, which can occur with a sedentary lifestyle, long and frequent air flights. If you sit all day at work or you have an airplane flight ahead of you, change your posture more often, get up, walk in the corridor and drink more water.
- Give up bad habits. It has been proven that blood clots appear 3 times more often in smokers than in non-smokers. Draw conclusions!

Expert Commentary
Dmitry Kaminer, cardiologist and therapist, says the following about thrombosis and its prevention:
Thrombosis is more common in women. At a young age, it occurs as a result of endocrine and genetic disorders. And in the elderly - with diabetes, atrial fibrillation, as a consequence of extensive operations, long-term infectious processes. However, at any age, men and women expose themselves to the risk of thrombosis if they lead an unhealthy lifestyle. The thrombus forms asymptomatically and in the early stages may be an "accidental finding" during medical examination. When a thrombus blocks the lumen of a vessel, pain and swelling appear, the color of the skin changes. A thrombus can form asymptomatically in the cavities of the heart. Detachment of the thrombus from the vessel wall in most cases leads to the death of a person. In order to prevent thrombosis, it is necessary to undergo preventive examinations by doctors on time. Do not engage in self-medication and do not compare your symptoms with those of other people.

To help blood vessels
To avoid blood clotting and vascular problems, drink more water and include these products in your diet.
Tomatoes
The valuable substance lycopene, which tomatoes are rich in, contributes to the normalization of cholesterol levels in the blood.
Linseed oil
A rich source of polyunsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E useful for blood vessels (it helps to restore the elasticity of blood vessels).
Raspberries
This berry contains the same substance as aspirin, which is often taken to reduce blood viscosity.
Garlic
It has an anti-inflammatory effect, softens and destroys cholesterol plaques and blood clots. Thanks to allicin, it strengthens the walls of blood vessels.
Citrus
A source of vitamin C and rutin (vitamin P). This "duet" restores the elasticity of blood vessels, reduces the permeability and brittleness of capillaries.
