The stars of the dubbing of the animated adventure "Super Mario Brothers in the Cinema" talked about their characters

The legendary Nintendo Super Mario Bros. characters have been an integral part of pop culture for decades and one of the most beloved and recognizable games among gamers around the world. That's why the cult global brands Illumination and Nintendo have joined forces to create an animated film about one of the most famous game characters — the plumber Mario.

The Ukrainian dubbing team of this exciting adventure was joined by Ukrainian stars, including TV presenter and comedian Vladimir Ostapchuk, theater and film actress Antonyna Khizhnyak and actor Mikhail Kukuyuk.

Vladimir Ostapchuk (Mario)

Mario is a small guy from Brooklyn with big dreams, charming and strong-willed, he values the brotherly relationship with Luigi most of all. However, a wave of failures catches up with the plumber, and we meet him precisely when his newly founded business turns upside down. In addition to everything, things get worse when, straight from Brooklyn, Mario finds himself in the magical Mushroom Kingdom, where he loses his brother. Therefore, with the help of Princess Pich, he must not only save Luigi, but also prove to himself and others his own courage, determination and perseverance.

"Mario impresses me with his strength of will, firmness of character and desire to go to the end. Even if he doesn't succeed at something the first time, he doesn't get tired of trying again and again. That is why Mario must win, because he never gives up. And we are also united by our dislike of mushrooms, which later plays a cruel joke on us. But we differ, perhaps, in our mustaches, because I have not dared to grow them all my life (laughs Vladimir)

Despite the fact that this is not my first experience in dubbing, I will remember working on this project for a long time. Mario is Italian, so it was important for us and the team to recreate the character's characteristic accent. Of course, the first attempts failed, and for some reason Mario resembled a German or a Georgian, but over time, after dozens of takes, we managed to find the right sound. Therefore, come to the cinema to appreciate my Italian accent and enjoy unforgettable humor, bright action and a fantastic story embedded in the plot."

Antonina Khyzhnyak (Princess Peach)

Princess Pich, played by Antonina Khizhnyak, is a brave and capable leader of the Mushroom Kingdom and a fierce defender of the ego of the inhabitants. Pitch plays the role of Mario's mentor in his attempts to stop the villain Bowser and bring back Luigi. Therefore, when the Kingdom is threatened, Pich will stop at nothing to save the inhabitants.

"A cute appearance combined with inner strength, charisma and original sense of humor is the combination of character traits that I am extremely impressed with in my heroine. Pich is warlike, brave, and ready to do anything to protect her land. I believe that for us this topic is relevant and poignant as never before.

The new Illumination and Nintendo project will definitely become one of my favorite stories, because despite its visual beauty and deep content, it resonates in me with real nostalgia and vivid memories from childhood.

And in the Ukrainian dubbing, the animation deserves special attention, because together with the team of the LeDoyen studio, we went all out to ensure that Ukrainians get the maximum viewing pleasure. There will be no more appropriate time than now to fight for the love and recognition of every Ukrainian viewer; to do everything so that Ukrainians watch in Ukrainian."

Mikhail Kukuyuk (Bowser)

Bowser is the most evil animation villain who rules the Dark Lands and strives to seize power in the Mushroom Kingdom at any cost. When we meet Bowser, he personifies the darkest side of evil. However, delving deeper, we learn that his desire for power is guided by a much simpler motive - love.

"If we put aside all the evilness of our antagonist, we will see that he is primarily guided by love. Everything Bowser does is for the sake of his beloved Peach and her confession, which adds a certain poignant feeling to his villainy.

For me, as well as for a large number of people of my generation, "Super Mario" is more than just a game - it is a return to youth and memories of the past. And dubbing Bowser, who was originally voiced by the unsurpassed singer, actor and musician Jack Black, was a special pleasure. After all, for me this is not just a figure from Hollywood, but one of those whom I really admire.

Therefore, be sure to go to the cinema and allow yourself and the children to distract themselves from the surrounding reality for at least a couple of hours."
