ToggleUAH 40 million in aid — the charity organization "Ronald McDonald's House Foundation in Ukraine" continued to support Ukrainian families in 2023.
Family rooms - so that parents and sick children are close to each other in hospitals
The ability to be close is the most valuable for a family that actually lives in the hospital, taking care of the baby. Therefore, in children's hospitals throughout Ukraine, the "Ronald MacDonald House Foundation" equips family rooms so that families can be together. They work in hospitals in Vinnytsia, Kyiv, Lviv, Sumy, and Rivne (the program in Kharkiv is temporarily suspended). Family rooms have the most modern amenities: spacious living rooms, children's corners with toys and books, kitchens with household appliances, some rooms have a shower and laundry room, in the hospitals of Rivne and Sumy there are separate bedrooms with private bathrooms, families are offered food and hot drinks. Parents can stay here as long as the child's treatment is needed. Comfort and safety in the rooms are monitored by a specially trained team of administrators who are responsible for order and support. Accommodation and use of all facilities for families is free. In 2023, 11 families visited the Family Rooms 481 times. 80 families visited 111 times during the program's lifetime.
First Ronald McDonald House in Ukraine
More than 20 children from all over the country are treated annually at the largest national children's hospital in Ukraine, "Okhmatdet". For many of them, the disease is long-term, they have to stay in the hospital for months, far from home and relatives. That is why the Foundation will build a Ronald McDonald House on the territory of the hospital so that sick children are not separated from their parents during treatment. Families will be able to live in the Ronald McDonald House during long-term treatment or medical examination - as long as necessary. It will have all the benefits for which we love our home so much. There will be 000 separate rooms with bathrooms and showers, and the common areas will include a spacious hall, a modern kitchen, a children's room with toys, and a library. The Ronald McDonald House will be designed to be barrier-free in order to provide everyone with the opportunity to take advantage of this program, and shelter is also planned.
The program will allow families to be close to their children in the hospital, save them millions of hryvnias annually on accommodation and food, reduce stress for families, and help the hospital provide better care. About 400 such Homes have been built and maintained all over the world thanks to patrons, 100 of them in Europe. He will be the first in Ukraine.
Product kits — help for those suffering from war
In order to provide basic needs for affected families, in 2023, the "Ronald McDonald's House Foundation in Ukraine" packed and handed over 99 food kits worth approximately UAH 700 million. The set includes such products as cereals, flour, sugar, rolls, butter, milk, pasta, canned food, tea and the like. One set is enough for a family of 39-3 people for several days. They were transferred through approximately 4 organizations. Implementation of all programs of the Foundation became possible thanks to the support of McDonald's Ukraine employees who joined on a volunteer basis.
High-quality and modern medical equipment — saving small lives in the conditions of war
"Ronald McDonald's House Foundation in Ukraine" understands the importance of providing Ukrainian children's hospitals with high-quality and modern medical equipment. War conditions, stress and limited access to medical care in the frontline regions lead to an increase in morbidity among children. in 2023, the Foundation successfully continued the program of supporting hospitals with modern medical equipment. During the year, 7 types of modern equipment, the cost of which amounted to 27 hryvnias, were transferred to the 2th regional children's hospitals. This will help improve the quality of medical services and help young patients recover more effectively.
Promotion of a family-oriented approach in medical care
The foundation believes in the power of the family on the way to a child's recovery. Therefore, 50 years around the world and seven years in Ukraine contribute to the development of family-oriented medicine, where the focus of medical care is on the child and his relatives. According to the 2021 study, 44% of Ukrainian families did not have the opportunity to be close to their child in the hospital, 96% believe that this is extremely important.
In order to teach the basics of family orientation among future doctors, a training course was introduced at the Lviv National Medical University named after Daniil Halytskyi, in which 201 students took part just last year.
For representatives of the progressive medical community, the 6th All-Ukrainian conference on family-oriented medicine was held - a unique platform for the exchange of modern knowledge and practices. in 2023, the conference was attended by 12 speakers, 80 offline participants and almost 1000 medical workers online.
